HOW DOES ECP THERAPY WORK?
ECP Therapy is a non-surgical process that enhance blood circulation. During a therapy session, a therapist wraps cuffs (similar to blood pressure cuffs) around your calves, thighs and hips. Application of ECG enables the ECP system to time its compression to the rhythm of your heartbeat. When the heart is at rest, air is pump into the cuffs in a sequential manner from the calves (1), to the thighs (2), then to the hip (3). Prior to the next heartbeat, all 3 sets of cuffs are deflated simultaneously.
ECP Therapy is soothing and relaxing and feels like a lower body massage.
What does ECP Therapy feel like?
It feels like a firm massage with pressure applied to the hips and legs at regular interval. The intensity of the pressure is adjustable to ensure a comfortable and effective treatment.
Are there side effect to ECP Therapy?
If the cuffs are not adjusted properly or the pressure is set too high for you, tenderness or bruising may occur. Extra padding can be arranged and the pressure setting can be adjusted to your comfort. Individual with blood clots or past history of blood clots should not undergo ECP Therapy.
If you have any condition list under the contraindications, you should not undergo ECP Therapy.
How long does one session of ECP Therapy take?
For treatment of chronic stable angina, the established treatment time is 60 minutes per session. For other individuals, therapy duration may be advised by a healthcare professional.
How may sessions are require for a full course of therapy?
For treatment of chronic stable angina, the established duration is 35 treatment sessions over 7 to 8 weeks (approximately 4 to 5 treatment sessions per week). For other individuals, therapy duration may be advised by a healthcare professional.
